How to install the Desktop Edition on Windows Vista

The Visual Thesaurus Desktop Edition version 3.0 is fully compatible with MS Windows Vista. Older versions of the Visual Thesaurus might not work properly. If you have version 2.0, we recommend you upgrade to version 3.0.

If you are having difficulties installing in Windows Vista, please make sure of the following:

1. You are logged in as an administrator.

2. Rather than double-clicking the installation icon, or allowing the CD-ROM to auto start, right-click on the icon and choose "Run as Administrator" from the drop-down menu.

This is a new security feature in Vista, to prevent (.exe) files from running without the owner's intention.

How To for Download Installation

1. After the installer downloads, do not use the auto-run feature. Instead, locate the installation file on your hard drive (it is usually saved to the Downloads folder or the Desktop)
2. Do not double-click on the icon to run the installer. Instead, right-click on the icon and select "Run as administrator" from the drop-down menu to start the installation

How To for CD-ROM Installation

1. Do not use the auto-run feature. Instead, after putting the disk into the drive, go to the Run menu and click "Computer"
2. On the next screen, find your CD-ROM drive from the left-hand menu (it is usually called "E")
3. Right-click on the drive and select "Run as administrator" from the drop-down menu
