I compose music that explores simple but unstable tonalities, complex rhythm, and small-scale conflicts in the perception of voice and pulse. His music has been featured in Cologne’s Gerngesehen series, at Sydney Conservatory’s “Music and Social Justice” conference, New England Conservatory's Summer Institute for Contemporary Piano, and in the John Cage Centennial "iLand" festival at the New School for Social Research. Carson performs periodically with a loose band of artists including saxophonist Rhonda Taylor, bassist Christopher Williams, trumpeter Glen Whitehead, and members of the piano-percussion quartet “Yarn/Wire,” who share a devotion to weird and inadvisably risky ensemble practices. His music appears on the Albany and Centaur record labels. He is co-author, with comedy writer Perre DiCarlo, of "The Hippogriff Cookbook."
