Favorite Word:

hermeneutics
It describes a process that I carry out almost every day. It often involves interpreting texts that are puzzling and anachronistic. It something that literary critics, historians, and Bible scholars do all the time. It helps us remember that the world does not consist of pre-existing facts.

Least Favorite Word:

fundamentalism
Fundamentalism is a word that is often used to create a dangerous other. It conjures up a simply binary and implies that people on one side of the binary are superior to those on other other. In this respect, it has much in common with terms such as terrorism, primitive religion, and extremism.
