The 25th president of the United States, McKinley (January 29, 1843 - September 14, 1901) served at the turn of the 20th century, from March 4, 1897 until his unfortunate assassination by anarchist Leon Czolgosz, which led to his death a few days later from gangrene that infected his gastrointestinal system. He is remembered by some as the "most liked President in history" at the time of death.
