About Me
I am retired after more than 30 years in the computer industry. My most exciting job was directing the project to build the Internet2 network - a member only network for universities and research organizations, used to pilot really advanced Internet application, such as networked drama and music, remote surgery, super hi-def streaming etc. I also ran the not-for-profit called ThinkQuest, which challenged and rewarded 100,000 students worldwide to prepare educational websites.
During that project, I became interested in the parlous state of our schools, and I am now writing a book suggesting how 21st century schools will look.

Favorite Word:

simpatia
It captures a quality that is hard to define, but makes all the difference, when you come across someone who is sympatico/a.

Least Favorite Word:

hone
As in "hone in on". Despite the protestations of my friends that this is a correct usage, I cannot be convinced. To my ear it always sounds like an awful confusion of ideas: sharpening something versus returning to it.
