What I like about writing is that I can capture a feeling or a picture that stays with me. One description of my grandmother is a visual reminder of who she was and what she was all about -- at least to my "small" eyes, as I was only eight when she died. I have many family members I would like to capture in the same way.
I write both poetry and short stories, but have never published. For the most part, I like to write from a southern viewpoint which is my heritage, but have also written from a northerner or New England viewpoint (to the best of my ability). I like colloquialisms because of their ability to fully describe a situation from a particular culture.
I am a native New Mexican, but have lived in many states which has given me better knowledge of what it is to be a "southerner," for instance, or a "northener." I like and fit in well with people from different cultures.
