Its shortness is its only redeeming quality. As in it ceases almost as soon as it starts. 'As' is overencumbered with definitions, and undercared for by the ever rarer stewards of unambiguous construction. I particularly detest its use as a synonym for 'because.' Just use 'because!' (I believe 'as' and 'because' are not pure synonyms. 'As' contains some flavor of temporal or spatial or metaphysical equivalence that 'because' lacks.) As if this paragraph will even change your mind. Harrumph!
