Where will your school stack up on the Vocabulary Bowl leaderboards this season?
The 2019–2020 Vocabulary Bowl season starts on October 1st, and schools all across North America are getting ready to play, compete, and learn. During the next seven months, more than one million students from thousands of schools will master tens of millions of words as they compete for bragging rights and banners, division titles and trophies.
Whether your school is just getting up and running or you're a defending champ, we're rooting for you! Here's a sneak peek at the upcoming action, some special shoutouts, and a rundown of the new awards we've added this season.
2019–2020 Vocab Bowl Season Preview
New Division Trophies
In addition to the Champions Cup that's awarded to the top high school and the top middle school at the end of the season, starting this year we'll also award trophies in Divisions I, II, and III to the top high school and the top middle/elementary school, and to the high school and middle/elementary school runners-up. The winning high school and the winning middle/elementary school will also receive achievement medals to award to their top one hundred students.
Banners Galore
Plus, we're giving out banners to all of the above, as well as to the top ten high schools and middle/elementary schools and the top ten schools in Divisions I, II, and III. But that's not all! We want to make sure to stoke the fires of friendly competition at a more local level too. So we're awarding a champions banner to the top school in every U.S. State and Territory, and every Canadian Province. That's more than 100 banners up for grabs! See the full Vocabulary Bowl rules for details.
Vocabulary Bowl Top 100
With tens of thousands of schools competing in the Vocabulary Bowl, ranking in the Top 100 at the end of the season is an outstanding accomplishment. In recognition of this effort, we award an official Vocabulary Bowl achievement certificate to the Top 100 high schools and the Top 100 middle/elemntary schools at the end of the season.
Introducing… High School and Middle School Monthly Champions!
While the official season runs from October 1st through April 30th, our daily, weekly and monthly leaderboards let schools vie for vocabulary supremacy all year 'round. We've always awarded a monthly champions banner to the school that mastered the most words, but we've been so blown away by the incredible effort that students across the map have shown over the past year that we wanted to find another way to recognize their achievements. So starting this October, now we're going to award two monthly champions banners — one to the top high school and one to the top middle/elementary school. The monthly high school and middle/elementary school winners will also receive achievement medals to award to their top five students.
Here's a rundown of the Vocabulary Bowl titles and awards that we give out over the course of the year:
