Pope High School Greyhounds Grab August Champion's Banner

While August brought scorching temperatures to much of the country, the Vocabulary Bowl leaderboard posted some heated competition that intensified right up until the end. After weeks of neck-and-neck action among schools from Georgia, Indiana, and California, Pope High School of Marietta, Georgia ultimately prevailed with the August win for most Overall Words Mastered.
There seems to be something special about the month of August for Pope, who earned an impressive "North American Top Ten" achievement the same time last year with a 7th place finish. But August 2016 marks the first time that the Greyhounds ascended to the monthly number one slot in North America, earning them the glorious green Champion's Banner with over 23,000 words mastered in their stellar back-to-school effort. Now firmly established as seasoned competitors, the Greyhounds have also been dominant within their state in the previous Bowl season, with several top ten finishes on the monthly Georgia and North America leaderboards.
Also deserving mention for their impressive August performance are a few schools that gave Pope a run for their money. Nipping at the heels of the Greyhounds all month was Runner-Up Plymouth High School of Plymouth, Indiana. August seems to be a hot month for Plymouth, too, as the Pilgrims achieved the same impressive North American number two spot this same month in 2015.
Right behind Pope and Plymouth and putting up their own fierce battle for third place were Etiwanda High School of California, Floyd Central High School of Indiana, and Tucker High School of Georgia. With a huge surge in the last two days of August, ultimately it was Etiwanda that snagged 3rd place. Congratulations to these schools for their blazing start to the school year.Stay tuned for the last month of preseason Vocabulary Bowl action in September. The next Bowl season gets underway on October 1st and runs through April, with monthly banners at stake and the title of Vocabulary Bowl Champion on the line. Now is the time to sign up, create classes, assign work and get your school ready to compete for word domination.
