By Teacher Request: Words from David Almond's "Skellig"

Recently, a teacher using Vocabulary.com in the classroom got in touch with us, requesting we create a list for a book she is teaching: David Almond's Skellig. We were thrilled to hear from her — we always welcome teacher input — and happy to create a Skellig Vocabulary List.

Skellig, the compelling story of a boy caring for a old man he discovers in his family's garage and later discovers may be an angel, was selected as the Whitbread Children's Book of the Year on its 1998 UK publication, won a Carnegie Medal from the American Library Association, and was shortlisted for the Prinz Award in the United States a year later. It was adapted as a play in 2003, an opera in 2008, and released as a film in 2009.
