Fear, like hatred and suspicion belongs to the ego. Fear ruled my egotistical mind for many years. I was once asked by a very good man “what is you’re biggest fear?” To which I replied, “the fear of being loved” my ego was very pleased with itself for providing such a unique and different answer to the other answers that had arisen from the group. My friends response? “Yes Luke, that is a fear.” I didn’t realise it at the time, although there was a lot of truth in my answer, I feared everything.
Resentment illustrates the importance of a moment that has passed in a negative way. To relive a painful experience over and over again is counterproductive to spiritual growth. It is a form of hatred that wreaks havoc if continuously observed.
