I once heard Christopher Seaman, the conductor of the Rochester Philharmonic refer to symphony or concerto--in any case, something he loved--as "glorious," and glorious sounded beautiful in his English accent, more genuine, like that word suited precisely where he came from. Later, I would hear Marilynne Robinson say "delight" over and over again as she read a passage from Moby-Dick, an anaphoric passage wherein she "Delight is, delight is" over and over, like beatitudes upon us.
