About Me
I am an English teacher, but more than that. I love words - exploring their meaning, their origins, expanding my ability to better choose the best word. I want our language to grow and try to encourage my students to discern the connotations of words so they can better communicate. So I guess I should describe myself as a erstwhile linguist - I am not there, but would love to be. I also describe myself as an existential teacher. That is, I firmly believe each person's learning is their personal responsibility.

Favorite Word:

Far to often empathetic is confused with sympathetic. When a person can truly empathize with another, there is a deep understanding and connection made. All too often we offer our sympathy without truly getting in touch with how we would feel or react in the same circumstance.

Just the thought of someone being that uncooperative, that unable to reform or work toward doing something is anathema to me.
