A writer. Retired from work as a civil servant, I can now concentrate on writing and learning more about the world. I have always had a good vocabulary. I was told when I was a child that I had the largest vocabulary in the school, including the staff, (this worried me, a little). People used to say I had swallowed a dictionary. I used to sit and read the dictionary in order to learn new words. My spelling, however, was never that good. I can usually spell OK. But when I am writing, I write down what I hear 'in my head', rather than what I see on the page, and sometimes, I confuse two or more different allophones, such as 'bear' and 'bare'. I am single, and at the moment, do not have many friends. I am trying to get back in touch with old work colleagues. I retired due to ill health, my own and my mother's.
