About Me
I am a fifteen year-old American who is living in Nepal for my sophomore year. My favorite classes are world history and environmental science, and I love to think about problems that we are confronting in the world today. My favorite hobbies outside of school include language learning, fishing and sailing, playing tennis and traveling. I am in debate club and drama club, both of which I enjoy, and I play the oboe and the trumpet in our schools band and jazz band ensembles respectively. My father is a professor at Michigan State University, and my mother is a doctor at the Michigan State University clinic, Olin. I plan to return to the U.S. after this school year to finish high school there.

Favorite Word:

Window is my favorite word because it is very simple, but can be used in many ways. It can be used metaphorically to describe things through which you can see but not touch. The word is Germanic in origin, from old norse for "wind eye", making the word sound more personal than an old french based word, and it has a nice juxtaposition; two syllables, not too short or too long, and and has clear consonant sounds.

Least Favorite Word:

I once had a teacher who constantly used this word, along with pet peeve, in reference to various behaviors of middle school students. After hearing these words almost every day for a year they became very annoying. It is a word that is used deliberately to sound condescending.
