About Me
I'm the author of a debut novel, THE YEAR OF THE GADFLY (Houghton Mifflin Harcourt, 2012) about a teenage journalist who talks to the ghost of Edward R. Murrow and a failed microbiologist-turned high school science teacher, fleeing the ghosts of his past. In this novel, great for adults and older teens, both narrators become embroiled in a secret society with a morally ambiguous agenda.

I'm also a freelance journalist. I've written for the New York Times, The Washington Post Magazine, Marie Claire, Allure, The Christian Science Monitor,, Fast Company and others. You can read more about me and my clips at my website:

Least Favorite Word:

Ok, so in fact my least favorite word is "panties," with an "s," which isn't included in the visual thesaurus database. Do I really need to explain what's wrong with this word and why it makes me squirm? The only acceptable way to describe one's undergarments is "undies, underwear, or underpants." Or you could say "bloomers" when appropriate.
