I think it's fascinating when words have multiple layers of meaning. "Matter" can be physical, mass. It pretty much always has to do with weightiness, substance. It matters that you are here. Life has meaning. Everything--perhaps--matters.
is, by its 21st century usage, a pretty lame word. I'd rather do more than "put up with" someone. Imagine telling a child or friend, "I'll tolerate your presence in my life," or, "I guess you're alright." Tolerance says, "Do what you want. I won't even tell you what I think." Love can say, "I have a feeling you're wrong about this, and I have to say something because you're important to me."
