This is a "dead end" word. It goes nowhere, ever. For me, there is no "wrong" or dumb" or dysfunctional question in the context of a working classroom environment. Students may have all sorts of reasons: being unfocused, distracted, hungry, lacking sleep: all of these have to do with poor choices, or with learning disabilities, and not with the intelligence that the word "dumb" is often associated with...
