I am an old man waiting to die -- not in the morbid, but the stoic sense. I realize my productive years are essentially over, but I have no regrets. I've had a productive life with many satisfying opportunities to improve the lives of others. I have been honored for my achievements, for which I am grateful.
I have traveled the world and learned about the cultures of other places; enjoyed meeting fascinating people everywhere. I am honored to have been accepted in many places I might have expected to be alien. Hospitality is part of how every culture defines itself. This is a comforting constant that is also inspiring.
Children and animals are invariably endearing. I enjoy -- and try to nurture --their curiosity and sense of wonder. I am privileged to live in the middle of a 6,000 acre animal preserve, which stimulates a constant sense of awe for the creatures and the surrounding forests and ridges. Describing them requires a constant improvement of my vocabulary.
